Train45 Ending Choice — Trust the Angel vs Trust the Demon

Every Train45 finale narrows to one choice: spend the Konial Memo on the angel lever (Destined End) or break causality with Xiao Ke OMEGA (True Ending). This page documents what each branch unlocks, what it costs, and how the Steam achievement % splits between them.

Why the Choice Matters

The choice happens in the engine room in chapter 6. Konial hands you the Memo after her Lv2 affection dialogue. You then have two options at the control room lever:

  • Trust the Angel (Pazuzu): pull the lever without OMEGA. Triggers the Destined End. Steam achievement "Is this really how it ends?" at 48.17% global unlock.
  • Trust the Demon (Konial): take out Xiao Ke OMEGA and choose the OMEGA option. Breaks causality, escapes the loop. Steam achievement "Succeeded in twisting causality." at 52.68% global unlock.

The OMEGA choice requires you to have raised Konial's affection to Lv2 and equipped the Copper Bracelet through the OMEGA dialogue. The lever choice has no requirement other than reaching the engine room.

Trust the Angel — Destined End

Walk to the engine room lever, spend the Memo on the angel option. The game fades to white, the characters' memories are erased, and the credits roll on a quiet ending.

  • Steam achievement: Is this really how it ends? 48.17% global (94 of 148 club members).
  • Gallery: 1 CG (Destined End still frame).
  • Epilogue: no.
  • Memory Room: no — the Memory Room only unlocks on the True Ending.
  • Required items: any ending state. The lever is reachable on any route, even if all companions are at Lv0.

This is the canonical "bad ending" branch from a route-completion perspective, but the in-game label is Destined End.

Trust the Demon — True Ending

Walk to the engine room with Xiao Ke OMEGA in your inventory. Spend the Memo on the OMEGA option. Konial breaks causality, the angel is undone, and the train scene plays in reverse.

  • Steam achievement: Succeeded in twisting causality. 52.68% global (86 of 148 club members).
  • Gallery: 1 CG (True Ending CG) + 22 Memory Room replays + Ghost H frame (if X-Ray Spec was equipped).
  • Epilogue: yes — plays after the credits.
  • Memory Room: yes — the True Ending unlocks the full Memory Room scene library.
  • Required items: Konial Memo + Xiao Ke OMEGA + queue 8-31-45-54.

The True Ending is the longest single ending — roughly 12 minutes from the lever choice to credits roll.

Achievement % Comparison

Steam Hunters and exophase.com track global unlock rates. The ending-related achievements split roughly evenly across the player base:

AchievementTriggerGlobal %
Is this really how it ends?Destined End (angel lever)48.17%
Succeeded in twisting causalityTrue Ending (OMEGA)52.68%
Became friends with the ghostsMemory Room unlock60.56%
Recovered Pazuzu's walletWallet pickup chapter 372.68%
Found Pazuzu trapped in a dark roomDark Room route 2-3-10-4162.25%

Destined End pulls slightly fewer players because it requires a deliberate choice to ignore the OMEGA dialogue. The True Ending sits at a higher unlock rate because the OMEGA choice is the obvious "complete the game" decision for most players.

How to Make Both Choices in One Run

You cannot — the choice is one-shot per save. To unlock both endings, you need two playthroughs:

  1. Play 1: focus on the True Ending. Build Konial Lv2, queue 8-31-45-54, take OMEGA. Save the run.
  2. Play 2: reload the chapter-5 save (or start fresh) and reach the engine room with NO OMEGA in your inventory. Spend Memo on the lever.

Both playthroughs share the same cloud save slot — Steam Cloud tracks per-slot, not per-endings, so you can carry the True Ending state into Play 2.

What the Game Warns You About

The Memo dialogue in the engine room has a 3-second hold-to-confirm on the lever choice. This is intentional — the game explicitly warns you that pulling the lever without OMEGA locks you out of the Memory Room on this save. There is no in-game way to recover the Memory Room from a Destined End save without re-doing the True Ending route.

The Save Files guide covers the AppData backup procedure if you want to keep a True Ending save pristine while you experiment with the Destined End branch.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between Trust the Angel and Trust the Demon?

Trust the Angel pulls the lever without OMEGA and triggers the Destined End. Trust the Demon uses Xiao Ke OMEGA and breaks causality for the True Ending. They share the same engine room scene; the choice is which Memo option you take.

Can I switch endings without restarting?

No. The choice is one-shot per save. To get both, you need a second playthrough with a backup of the chapter-5 save file.

Which ending is harder to get?

The True Ending requires Konial Lv2 + OMEGA + the 8-31-45-54 route code. The Destined End requires only that you reach the engine room. Difficulty is roughly equal — the True Ending is longer, but the requirements are linear.

Does the choice affect companion endings?

No. Companion endings (Reina, Mai, Pazuzu, Butler) are reached by Lv7 affection and the per-companion finale branch — they do not require the engine room choice. You can play a Reina Happy Ending run and still see the lever.
