Train45 DLSS / GPU / Performance
Train45 runs on Godot Engine and is light by modern standards, but a handful of GPU/driver combinations cause frame drops or crashes. This page covers DLSS, FSR, Vulkan, Steam Deck performance, and the known crashes that Elniko has patched.
Does Train45 Support DLSS or FSR?
As of v1.0.5.1, Train45 does not ship native DLSS or FSR support. The game runs at native resolution and uses Godot's standard renderer. There is no in-game upscaling toggle.
If you want frame-rate boosts:
- NVIDIA users — enable driver-level Image Sharpening (NVIDIA Control Panel → Manage 3D Settings). Helps clarity without DLSS.
- AMD users — enable Radeon Image Sharpening (RIS) in the AMD driver. Same effect as FSR for a small overhead cost.
- Steam Deck — use per-game proton settings:
PROTON_ENABLE_NVAPI=1is unnecessary since v1.0.5.1, but the Deck's native 60 FPS target is comfortably met.
Minimum vs Recommended Specs
| Spec | Minimum | Recommended |
|---|---|---|
| OS | Windows 10 64-bit | Windows 10 / 11 64-bit |
| CPU | Intel i3-6100 / AMD FX-6300 | Intel i5-8400 / AMD Ryzen 5 2600 |
| RAM | 4 GB | 8 GB |
| GPU | NVIDIA GTX 750 Ti / AMD R7 260X | NVIDIA GTX 1060 / AMD RX 580 |
| DirectX / Vulkan | Vulkan 1.0 | Vulkan 1.2 |
| Storage | 2 GB SSD | 2 GB SSD |
The game is far from demanding. Most pre-2018 GPUs run it at 60 FPS comfortably.
Common Performance Issues
Frame drops on laptop hybrid GPUs — if your laptop switches between integrated and discrete GPUs, force the discrete GPU for TrainNumber45.exe in the NVIDIA / AMD control panel. Steam launch options can also help: cmd /c set GPU_POWER_PREFERENCE=1.
Vulkan validation crashes — if you have the Vulkan SDK installed, validation layers can crash the game. Disable Vulkan validation layers before launching.
Steam Deck audio crackling — fixed in v1.0.5.1. Pre-fix users should lower in-game audio quality in the settings menu.
Save file corruption on power loss — Steam Cloud protects against this for cloud-sync users, but standalone saves can corrupt. See the Save Files guide.
Steam Deck Verified — What It Means
Train45 became Steam Deck Verified in v1.0.5.1 (14 July 2026). The Deck certification covers:
- Native 60 FPS at 1280×800 (Deck LCD) and 1280×800 (Deck OLED).
- Gamepad UI with proper glyphs (no missing-button prompts).
- CRT filter toggle in the gameplay settings tab.
- Sleep/resume cycle works without save corruption.
Pre-1.0.5.1 the Deck had gamepad glyph issues. The dedicated Steam Deck guide walks through setup.
Driver & OS Notes
NVIDIA drivers — driver 552.22 or later recommended. Pre-2024 drivers had a Godot rendering bug that caused occasional black frames in car transitions.
AMD drivers — Adrenalin 24.4.1 or later. Earlier drivers had a Vulkan crash on chapter 5 saves.
Windows 10 21H2 — fully supported. Windows 10 1909 (and earlier) lose Vulkan 1.2 features and fall back to Vulkan 1.0 — playable but no gamepad glyph fix.
SteamOS 3.5+ — required for Deck Verified badge. Older SteamOS works but loses CRT filter.

Why are my frames dropping?
Most drops come from hybrid-GPU switching. Force the discrete GPU for TrainNumber45.exe in the control panel.
Is Train45 Steam Deck Verified?
Yes, since v1.0.5.1 (14 July 2026). Runs at 60 FPS native.
Does Train45 use Vulkan or DirectX?
Vulkan 1.2 is the default renderer. There is no DirectX option.
